Cozy, Creaky Wood Floors, Delicious Italian Dishes

These are the words that best describe one of my favorite places to eat in downtown Huntsville, Mazzara’s Italian Restaurant.

Downtown Huntsville has a variety of restaurants and bars, but Mazzara’s should be on everyone’s radar. It’s off the beaten path —just off the square…housed in the quaint, historic Humphrey’s-Rodgers House built in the mid-1800s. Savor pasta dishes, seafood, charcuterie boards, yummy salads like watermelon and pea shoot salad, and mouth-watering desserts, while taking in the atmosphere of the historic house. From the creaky wood floors to the cozy bar (they only serve wine and beer) and personable staff, it’s an experience dining here. There are also a few tables on the outdoor patio for alfresco dining.

My favorite dish and I’m not sure of the exact name, is the beef short rib meat with pasta and a creamy sauce. It’s not on the menu, but you have to ask for it; although at times, it’s on the specials menu. I have also tried the yummy baby arugula & radicchio salad (spiced pecans, Madeira-Infused Raisins, orange segments, white balsamic vinaigrette, and shaved Midnight Moon cheese).

My favorite desserts are the house-made Tiramisu (cocoa powder, coffee and whipped topping) and the Limoncello Cake (cake with lemon cream icing topped with Bing Cherries). There’s also lemon cheesecake, a chocolate ganache brownie and panna cotta.

The next time you’re in downtown Huntsville whether for a meeting, event or concert, I highly recommend Mazzara’s, and I highly recommend reservations, especially on weekends.
