Pasta anyone? You’ll want to try Amerigo.
I love pasta. I love Italian food. So when I discovered that an Italian Restaurant was opening in Huntsville, Alabama I was pumped with excitement. After a yearlong wait, the opening day had arrived and I made sure to make reservations at Amerigo. My husband and I dined on opening day which to my surprise was not crazy busy but had a steady flow of hungry diners. We had a reservation for 5:00 pm on a Monday so we would be sure to get a table.

Located in South Huntsville in the Hays Farm Shopping Center just off of Memorial Parkway, Amerigo has a large bar area as you enter the restaurant with booth and table seating throughout. They also have a large outdoor dining area but that space was not open at the time we visited.
There were so many delicious choices on the menu that it was difficult to decide. I wanted one of almost everything from the Cannelloni, Pasta Bolognese and Pasta Carbonara to the Chicken Piccata, Gorgonzola Filet and Chicken Marsala. Pizza is also on the menu and one stood out to me, the Fig & Prosciutto with black mission figs.

It was a difficult decision, but I went with the Cannelloni and my husband ordered the Chicken Piccata. We also ordered the Goat Cheese & Walnut salad and the Arugula & Flame Grilled Apple salad. My mouth was watering as we awaited the arrival of our food. First came the herb olive oil and bread which was addictive. Then came the salads.

The salads were fresh, crisp and tasty. The roasted red peppers were a bit much, but nonetheless was delicious. They are large portions too.
Then came the entrees. My first bite of the Cannelloni was a savory blend of chicken, ricotta cheese, spinach, mozzarella, tomatoes and cream sauce. I was in food heaven. It was even better than the Italian Restaurant that had been my favorite for years in Tuscaloosa, Alabama— Depalma’s. I took bite after satisfying bite until I couldn’t eat anymore. The portions are filling enough to ask for a to-go box, which I did. I also tasted my husband’s Chicken Piccata, a dish that I also make at home on occasion, and it was yummy. The Piccata came with mushrooms and crab meat on top which was a little different variation than I have eaten; nevertheless, we both came away with boxed up treats for lunch the next day.
We didn’t have room for dessert, but the menu looked enticing. Offerings of Tiramisu, Chocolate Pecan Fudge Brownie with vanilla ice cream and Kahlua chocolate sauce, key lime pie, and sorbet all caught my eye, but I just couldn’t take another bite. That just means that we will have to dine at Amerigo’s again in the near future so we can try the dessert. The service was also great and I hope it stays that way.
I highly recommend Amerigo’s and I know it won’t be long before we make a return visit.
